Sponsored Dogs in Danger of Euthanasia at Shelter

Yes, it's true.

At least 20 dogs will be put to sleep this week. Just one week after 10 were put to sleep. About 3 months ago, 16 dogs were put to sleep. Each time, almost all were pit bulls or pit bull types. Why? Because people, the media, and breed specific legislation have caused potential adopters to see a monster when they see a pit bull.

This Labor Day weekend Metro Animal Control & Welfare, Casper, Wyoming, received 20 dogs that were found, strays, and surrenders. Legally the shelter is required to keep these 20 new dogs for a minimum of 7 days...which means that in order to accommodate them, they must put to sleep 20 other dogs just to meet the demand.

This morning our President, Lisa Craft, was sent this email from the Director of Operations at Metro:
Lisa,
Just wanted to touch base with you as I am full and was wondering about the dogs that you are sponsoring, I realize that you have invested money in them but we are not even getting nibbles on them and I am being forced to euthanize other dogs when these dogs would have been done based on time, so my question is would it be possible for you to get them out and to a foster home while you try and place them in a permanent home? I know it is hard but we were swamped over the weekend and I have no room again.
Rick Sulzen, Manager, Metro Animal Control and Welfare
We need your help - we need FOSTERS and ADOPTERS willing to take not only our sponsored dogs, but help the other dogs at our kill shelter. We are willing to transport anywhere in the United States. All dogs will be provided a vet check and vaccinations prior to transport. All dogs and cats must be spayed or neutered.

Please contact us at 307-215-3034 if you are able to help with fostering or adopting. Please Like us on Facebook at Paws2Help4Pits and Paws2Help Foundation to see the most up to date information on the situation.
